Los Ranchos residents continue to fight against apartment complex development

BUT FIRST, A COMPLEX WITH AFFORDABLE HOUSING APARTMENTS IS BEING BUILT IN LOS RANCHOS. BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THAT COMMUNITY ARE PUSHING BACK AGAINST IT. JULIAN PARAS HAS BEEN FOLLOWING UP WITH WHAT RESIDENTS AND DEVELOPERS ARE SAYING. JULIAN. THAT’S RIGHT. SASHA. THIS HAS BEEN A LONG FIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE HERE IN LOS RANCHOS. IT’S ACTUALLY GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE THERE’S BEEN SOME LEGAL BATTLES CONNECTED TO THIS PROJECT NOW, EVEN THOUGH IT’S STILL BEING BUILT THERE ARE PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL VOICING THEIR CONCERNS OVER IT. THE WRONG PROJECT FOR THE LOCATION? YES, YES. TEAR IT DOWN. RESIDENTS IN THE LOS RANCHOS AREA ARE CLEAR ON WHERE THEY STAND, WITH THE NEW APARTMENT COMPLEX BEING BUILT IN THEIR COMMUNITY AT FOURTH AND OSUNA, SOME SHARING THEIR CONCERNS ABOUT WHAT TRAFFIC AND. PARKING WILL LOOK LIKE ONCE IT OPENS. THE EXPLANATIONS THAT WE’VE RECEIVED SO FAR DON’T SEEM TO SATISFY ALL OF OUR CONCERNS. WE CAN’T IMAGINE WHAT IT’S GOING TO BE LIKE WITH 200 MORE CARS. THE DEVELOPER BEHIND THE PROJECT, PALINDROME, TELLING RESIDENTS THE COMPLEX WILL BE BUILT, BUT ALSO SAYS THEY WANT IT TO FIT IN WITH THE COMMUNITY NEEDS. THE COMPLEX WOULD HAVE SPACE FOR BUSINESSES AND ALSO INCLUDE SECURITY STAFF, WHICH IS NOT SOMETHING THEY INCLUDE AT ALL OF THEIR PROPERTIES. WE WILL AGREE TO DO THAT WHETHER WE THINK IT’S GOING TO BE A CONCERN OR NOT. A JUDGE ALSO RULING THIS WEEK CONSTRUCTION WILL FINISH SAYING IT WOULD DO MORE HARM TO NOT BE COMPLETED. BUT COMMUNITY MEMBERS BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE THE ONES TO HAVE THE FINAL SAY ON WHAT HAPPENS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. ALL CONSTRUCTION HAS TO STOP AT THIS MOMENT. Residents in the Los Ranchos area are clear on where they stand with the new apartment complex being built in their community at 4th Street and Osuna.Some sharing their concerns about what traffic and parking will look like once it opens.The developer behind the project, Palindrome, telling residents the complex will be built — but also says they want it to fit in with the communities needs. The complex would have space for businesses and also include security staff which is not something they have at all of their properties.A judge also ruling this week construction will finish saying it would do more harm to not be completed. But community members believe they should be the ones to have the final say on what happens in their community.
