Casa Flamenca: Unique community aimed at teaching, and preserving the art of flamenco

Flamenco is for everyone, is the motto at Casa Flamenca. The local non-profit is dedicated to teaching, presenting, and preserving the art of flamenco. Carmen Montes, Executive Director of Casa Flamenca, talked about the summer series. Every summer for six months, artists and musicians perform at Casa Flamenco. This summer there are six artists.

Montes describes the experience as personal. “It’s literally flamenco in your face. You can feel the floor tremble, and you can get to see the musicians up close and personal,” said Montes. “Flamenco was born in living rooms, kitchens, and homes. It’s a very personal family-friend experience. When you transport it to big stages… it’s hard. It’s beautiful, but when you see it up close and personal you get to feel the feelings of the performance.”

She added that the performances at Casa Flamenca are meant to “transport you to another level.”
