ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In her freshman season at UNM, Paris Lauro appeared in 22 games and averaged just under three points. She showed some of her skillset in her limited action and even earned a Mountain West freshman of the week award. Now that she is one of only four returners, she is expecting a much larger role for herself.
“Understand it is a process and it’s all not going to come at once,” Lauro said. “Trust the work I put in and have trust with my coaches and teammates.”
“I think her confidence is getting a lot better, but also her ball handling is much better than it was last year,” said coach Bradbury. “Hopefully she can make the same strides defensively that she has in her ball handling. She’s always been able to shoot it but she has a chance to be a significant player.”
With so much change, Lauro is also stepping into more of a leadership role.
“I like it for sure and just having a voice is so nice,” she said. “It gives you confidence because even if you mess up, you’re just talking to your teammates you get over your mistakes, your missed shots a lot easier.”
